We had the privilege to join other family's at Camp Twin Lakes hosted by Camp Sunshine. I would like to quote one of the consulars off of her blog.
So much of me is made of what I learned from you. You'll be with me, like a handprint on my heart, and now whatever way our stories end I know you have re-written mine by being my friend.
This weekend I met some of the most selfless, giving, and kind people. I'm so thankful the Lord let us spend sometime together. Little by little He is showing David and me the road back to where he wants us. Focused on him, each other, and the children. Having fun and enjoying each and every moment together. Laying the stress down that I tend to pile on my self and doing the task that he puts before me with a joy in my heart that must always come from him. I am truly humbled with the family's and now new friends that we met this weekend. Grandmother's, Mom's, Dad's, Aunt's, Friend's, and volunteers all there to make this a great weekend for the children and each other.
David is a very private person and has only shared his feelings with a few people especially with what we have gone through with Daniel. I have wanted to get involved with other family's and find support and David listen to my heart on this one and said that we could attend Camp Twin Lakes. As the days got closer to camp day David said if the weather isn't going to be perfect then we can't go. We googled it and it said it would be perfect. He so dragged his feet. Then as it turned out he had to have a pice of equipment 12 miles from the camp on the same day that we had to check in and I said see God wants us to go. I know for sure he did.
The children and I was to drive the van up to meet David at the shop where his equipment was being worked on whenever we got all packed and ready to go. This is easier said then done. Most of our sleeping bags were over in the camper and I didn't want to take the 30 min detour to pick them up so I improvised with comforters and blankets and this ended up working out well. I also had work in the office one being a loooong call in to AT&T about one of the work phones and getting out invoices. That done and the den full of the stuff we needed, we decided it was time to load the van. Karen I will post a pic. of the den so you can see a little bit of just how much it takes for a two night stay away from home. James was the designated driver and I was the navigator. We left at two and had a 2 hour drive to meet up with David. We didn't have to check in until 7pm so we planed on a relaxing dinner and a trip to Wal-Mart. Well, after leaving the house for the third time (had to turn around and get things we forgot) we were on our way to gas up. I ran into the store for a snack while James gassed up the van. We pulled out of the parking lot onto a very busy street and after a few min I said James be careful with your driving and he said Mom I lost my power steering. I thought he was joking about his driving but then realized he ment no power steering for real. We made it to the K-Mart parking lot and I had Dad on the phone and he said check your belt so we did and it was off. A kind man from the auto parts store saw us, he stopped and said you need a special tool to put it back on. He said follow me and I will put it on and then he said it would be safer for him to get the tool and come back and put it on right here in the parking lot. So while we waited for him to return I took the children into the air-conditioned (it is still hot here in GA) K-Mart and picked up a few things needed for the trip. Also found a cute jean jumper for Krissy. As we were checking out the man had returned fixed the belt and would not take any payment for his time or trouble. David told me to drive it to our garage and have it checked over before making the drive with the children. He thought the trip would be canceled but God had everything working out. The garage worked us right in and said there was animal hair all over the belt and that it was not damaged but an animal must have been in there and that is what made the belt slip. They tightened everything and sent us on our way again no charge. We had a good drive along a great road 441 heading to the mountains the kids kept saying. David was waiting for us at Chick-fl-A. How cool is it to be able to go into a restaurant and order for your family and not worry (ok ) try not to worry about Daniel and what he is eating. They have a sheet of paper with all the nutritional facts on it so it was easy even with Stephen. After super I still needed to run into wal-mart but only Daddy and I went in. Then on to the camp. We arrived at 7:20 just right. But David was so uncomfortable. We were greeted and then these strangers started to unload our stuff out of the van and David was like I'm so out of my comfort zone Toinia what have you got me into???? Key words for both David and Mary all night. We were led down to our cabin and like poof all our stuff was there. They had golf carts with wagons on back that they moved everyone in and out. Well, they didn't move us out but that is for later.
All the families were to meet up at the gym to get aquatinted. There were adults talking, children playing, some sitting and others saying to them selves what am I doing here. Then Michelle started to talk and she had us play some games that made you mingle around and find other people like who has the same birthday as you. I was saying Sept. and a mom came up to me and put a precious little girl in my arms and said OK we found another Sept. She stayed with me for a long time. By the end of this game there were 12 groups of people and thats when they found out that Davids birthday was today. (Later for that Story!) At the end we played Rock, Scissors, Paper, in a way I had never played. Each person challenges one other person the looser of that match hold onto the wast of the winner a chanting his or her name and goes off to challenge someone else. The looser always going to the end of the line holding on chanting along with the rest until you have two very long lines chanting two names. They meet and challenge each other for the final winner just to all brake up and do over agin. Daniel was one of the big winners on one match. We were all laughing and then headed over to the dinning hall for a snack. There was so much food that I would not call it a snack. All weekend we had the best food!!! Then Justin stood up with his guitar and the children had to stand up and clap or dance along with the songs they were so fun to jump around to. Then he sang the Love is song for the first time and tears came to our eyes. I'm going to put the words up and post more about the weekend later.
There's nothing to hide, and nothing to fear, everything is crystal clear. No phony disguise no faces to wear, there is nothing we cannot share, 'cause I am at ease when I am with you, I know love is gonna see us through.
Love is higher than the mountains, love is deeper than the oceans, love is wider than the miles between you and me, love is stronger than a freight train, love is faster than a jet plane, love is bigger than the troubles we'll ever see,
we're never apart, we're never alone. Love is closer than the telephone. No wall is to high, no distance is to great, love will never hesitate, because we are the stage and love is the play and the scene is just another day.
Love is higher than the mountain, love is deeper than the oceans, love is wider than the miles between you and me, love is stronger then a freight train, love is faster than a jet plane, love is bigger than the troubles we'll ever see
Long as the day and dark as the night I know love is gonna be our light, the valley is low and the desert is dry, but love will never die.
(Know really loud)
Love is higher than the mountains, love is deeper than the oceans, love is wider than the miles between you and me, love is stronger than a freight train, love is faster than a jet plane, love is bigger than the troubles we'll ever see...
I would love to find this recored so I could post it. I found it on Camp Sunshines web as a back song for part of a video. Sorry so long and will post day2 with pic later.
Toinia, what a beautiful post. What an amazing time for you and David and the kids to have - I'm so glad that you were a determined wife and mom who just knew that you all were supposed to be there. I know that it's so hard for David to enter into that kind of environment because I tend to be the same way sometimes. Isn't it so cool how when you are with people who have experienced the same mountains and valleys that you have, that the bond is so immediate and deep? I know that for years, you will continue to see God's hand in everything, and although you would never choose this journey you've been on, that God sees it all and will turn every single tear and cry into joy. Love you all.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for part 2. So glad David realized he should follow your heart, but then he is a pretty smart fella, After all he did choose you!Love all of you
